Beginer Question: Requesting wind data from a met office.

I am VERY new to WAsP and have just completed the 'quick start' tutorial, which used wind data supplied already in the OWC format.

I want to use WAsP for real and need to request wind data from a met office in UK. I know this will be laughably obvious to people familiar with wind modelling but can somebody please explain how to ask for the right data and how this is best laid out?

I have approached a met office and just got directed to basic web pages showing current snapshot information on temperature and rainfall.
